Claim Your Legacy

You've Outlived Their Expectations.
Now Outlive Their Imagination.

For decades, you built things. You raised people. You showed up. You were responsible. You were sensible. You wore appropriate footwear.

That era is over.

Sunset Ink exists for the person who has earned the right to do something completely, gloriously unreasonable — and wants a world-class artist to help them do it right. We match our clients with the finest tattoo artists alive, anywhere on earth, for any vision, no matter how large, elaborate, or frankly alarming to their adult children.

The Artists

Each Sunset Ink artist is a master of their discipline, vetted for excellence, and fully briefed on the unique considerations of mature skin. They have all, at some point, been told a piece was "too ambitious." They find that motivating.

Margaret Holloway
Margaret "Two-Sleeve" Holloway
Full-Body Japanese Irezumi · Chicago, IL
A retired 4th-grade art teacher who discovered traditional Japanese tattooing at 71. Margaret has since completed three full body suits on clients ranging in age from 68 to 91. Her waiting list is 4 years. She is completely booked and taking inquiries anyway.
Desmond Kauffman
Desmond Kauffman
Photorealistic Portraiture · Scottsdale, AZ
Former cardiologist. Retired at 67. Took up tattooing as a hobby. Now internationally regarded as one of the top portrait artists in the Western hemisphere. His medical background gives him, in his words, "a professional relationship with the human body that most tattoo artists simply lack."
Loretta Vasquez
Loretta Vásquez
Neo-Traditional Floral · Santa Fe, NM
Loretta spent 40 years as a landscape architect before pivoting to tattooing at 63. Her pieces, which average 12 hours and frequently cover entire limbs, have been featured in three publications her children refuse to look at. She prefers clients "who have lived in their bodies long enough to know what they want in them."
Captain Norris
Captain "Steady Hand" Norris
American Traditional / Maritime · Newport, RI
A former merchant marine captain who tattooed his own crew for 30 years before opening a studio. Now 74, Norris specializes in "the kind of tattoo your doctor will absolutely ask you about." His flash sheets are certified museum-quality. He still has steadier hands than most artists half his age, and he will tell you so.

They Did It.

"I told my son I was getting a full back piece at 78. He said 'Mom, that's insane.' I told him I'd been listening to that for 78 years and was done. Sunset Ink found me Margaret. It took eleven sessions. My son cried at the reveal. Happy tears, eventually."
Ruth T., 79 · Retired Principal · Evanston, IL
"I lost my wife of 52 years in 2022. I got her portrait tattooed across my entire chest by Desmond at 81 years old. It is the most important thing on my body. I would do it again tomorrow. I am, in fact, going back for my other arm."
Harold M., 82 · Retired Engineer · Tucson, AZ
"My grandchildren called it a 'cry for attention.' I called it a $4,200 sleeve of peonies and a dragon that took four months to complete. We are all correct. The dragon won."
Gloria S., 71 · Retired Judge · Portland, OR
"Sunset Ink organized everything. The flights, the studio, the artist. I flew to Newport, spent a week with Captain Norris, and came home with a full nautical chest piece. My cardiologist said it was, quote, 'the most alarming thing I've ever seen at a checkup.' I consider that a compliment."
Frank D., 74 · Retired Admiral, USN · Alexandria, VA

We've Heard It All.

Is it safe to get tattooed at my age?
That is a question for your physician, and we strongly encourage you to ask them. We will note that every single one of our 847 clients has survived the experience and reported that it was worth it. We do require medical clearance for Legend tier engagements.
My family thinks this is a bad idea.
That is not a question. We understand. We include an optional family notification letter with every Nudge tier engagement, professionally worded to communicate that you are in your right mind, you have considered this carefully, and this is happening. You are welcome to add a personal note.
What if I want something very large?
Good. That's what we're here for. Sunset Ink was not built for the timid. We have coordinated full sleeves, back pieces, chest panels, and one thigh-to-ankle composition for a 77-year-old retired ballet instructor. We do not set limits. We set appointments.
How do I explain this to my doctor?
You don't. You show them. Legend tier clients receive a professional medical summary they may share with their care team. Most physicians have no follow-up questions once they see the quality of the work.
What if I change my mind?
In eleven years and 847 placements, no client has changed their mind after completion. Several changed their minds in the other direction and came back for more. We offer a full refund on consultation fees if you decide not to proceed. We have never issued one.

There Is No Perfect Moment.
There Is Only Now.

You have arrived at the point in life where you are allowed to do exactly what you want. We are here to help you do it beautifully, permanently, and at a scale your family will not soon forget.
